Care Guide
Caring for your pieces with intention extends their life — and honors the craft that went into making them.
Proto Marín designs are created to move, travel, swim, and live beautifully. With the right care, they’ll stay with you season after season.
After Every Swim
Saltwater, sunscreen, and chlorine can break down fabrics over time. Treat your swimwear gently:
Rinse immediately
Rinse in cool, fresh water as soon as possible after swimming.
Wash by hand only
Use a mild, gentle detergent. Avoid bleach, stain removers, or fabric softeners — they can damage fibers and fade color.
Do not wring
Press the water out carefully instead. Wringing stretches the fabric and elastic.
How to Wash
- Fill a basin with cool water
- Add a small amount of gentle detergent
- Soak for 10–15 minutes
- Gently rub areas that need extra attention
- Rinse thoroughly until water runs clear
Machine washing — even on delicate — significantly shortens the life of swimwear and is not recommended.
Drying
Air dry flat, out of direct sunlight.
Sun exposure can fade color and weaken fibers.
Avoid:
- dryers
- radiators or heaters
- hanging suits by the straps (they can stretch)
Place your suit on a clean towel and reshape while drying.
Sunscreen, Oils & Tanning Products
Lotions, tanning oils, and sunscreen can stain and break down elastic.
- Allow sunscreen to fully absorb and dry before dressing
- Rinse suits promptly if contact occurs
- Avoid direct contact with self-tanner
Small marks are normal over time — they are part of a well-loved piece.
Pools, Spas & Rough Surfaces
Chlorine + hot water can cause fabrics to loosen faster. Rinse right after use, and limit time in hot tubs when possible.
Avoid sitting directly on:
- concrete
- rough pool edges
- wooden decks
Use a towel — it prevents pilling and snags.
Storage
Store pieces fully dry, folded — not hung.
- Keep in a cool, dry place
- Avoid airtight plastic bags
- Keep away from heat and humidity
For travel, use breathable fabric pouches whenever possible.
Hardware & Details
If your piece includes hardware or trims, treat with care:
- Rinse after salt or chlorine exposure
- Avoid harsh cleaners or metal polish
- Dry thoroughly before storing
A Note on Wear Over Time
High-quality fabrics naturally soften with wear — this is part of their beauty.
Pilling may occur from friction, and mild color variation may appear with long sun exposure. These signs reflect life lived in your garments — beach days, travels, and stories collected along the way.
